Stampin’ Up! Best Catch Masculine Birthday Card

Good Monday Morning! Today I have a masculine birthday card using the wonderful Stampin’ Up! Best Catch stamp set. You can find the supplies I used to create this card at the bottom of my post along with the sizes of cardstock used.

First I cut the vertical panel in Garden Green and embossed it with the Woodland embossing folder. I then lightly sponged it in Soft Suede to give it depth. I attached it with snail to a Pretty Peacock card base. I put it aside to work on the card front elements. I stamped the hat and fishing creel from the Stampin’ Up Best Catch stamp set in Soft Suede ink on Crumb Cake cardstock. I colored the band on the hat using an old Dapper Denim marker and the colored the creel with Dark So Saffron and Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends. I then die cut them using the coordinating dies from the Catch of the Day die set. I also die cut a set of cattails from Old Olive cardstock and colored the the tips using a brown marker.

I stamped the fish and the fish hook from the Stampin’ Up! Best Catch stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black in on Thick Whisper White cardstock. I colored the fish hook with Real Red, Crushed Curry and Garden Green Stampin’ Write Markers and the outside and feathers with the light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends. I then die cut it using the coordinating die. I colored the fish using various copic markers and then used the direct to paper technique to apply Versamark Ink to cover the fish. I then sprinkled clear embossing powder over it and heat set. When it was cool, I die cut it using the coordinating die.

I then die cut a large stitched circle from Pool Party cardstock. I stamped the ‘Happy Birthday’ greeting from the Country Road stamp set using Memento Tuxedo black ink and then embossed the stitched circle using the Subtle embossing folder to provide texture. I then die cut a larger circle in Basic Black for a mat. I then attached the reeds and fish hook with glue dots and the fish with dimensionals. I cut a piece of the copper trim and stretched it widthwise so that it resembles a net. I then attached it to the card base using a glue dot behind the creel. I then attached the creel and hat with glue dots and the circle using dimensionals.

For the inside of the card, I stamped the leaping trout in soft suede ink on Whisper White after stamping off 3 times and then matted it with Garden Green and Black before attaching it to the inside of the card with snail.

I hope you enjoyed this card. It has a lot of elements after the CAS (clean and simple) cards last week and was fun to make.

There is a park in my town with ball fields, playgrounds and a trout fish hatchery! When the grandkids visited this Spring we took them to play at the playground and then went to see the fish. They really loved it!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

  1. THis is a WONDERFUL card. So beautiful. I love your treatment of the fish…and that copper ‘netting’ just adds the perfect finishing touch!
